MX graphics kit: how to choose the right kit for your bike? | KUTVEK

How to choose your motocross graphics kit? Model, year, design, customisation, finishes and fitting: the KUTVEK guide to finding the right kit for your bike.
Motocross Graphics Kit: How to Choose the Right Kit for Your Bike?
A motocross graphics kit can completely transform the look of a bike. But between different brands, years, models, designs, customisation levels and finishes, choosing the right kit isn't just about picking the one you find most attractive.
The first rule is simple: a good graphics kit must first and foremost be designed precisely for your bike and its year.
KTM, Yamaha, Honda, Kawasaki, Husqvarna, GASGAS, Suzuki… plastics can evolve from one generation to the next, sometimes even when the bike name remains the same.
At KUTVEK, motocross graphics kits are designed to match the shapes of the plastics on compatible models, then manufactured in France in our workshop.

Why Fit a Graphics Kit to a Motocross Bike?
The first reason is obviously aesthetic.
A motocross bike has relatively few bodywork elements. The side panels, radiator shrouds, mudguards and number plates therefore play a major role in its visual identity.
Changing the graphics kit can thus give the impression of completely changing bikes without replacing the plastics.
But the graphics also serve a practical function.
A kit made from suitable vinyl adds a layer to the surfaces it covers. On a bike exposed to mud, spray, the rider's boots and frequent washing, this helps protect the plastics from superficial marks.
A graphics kit obviously doesn't replace mechanical protection against impacts or falls.
Check the Model and Especially the Year of Your Motocross Bike
This is probably the most important point before ordering.
Two bikes with practically the same name can use different plastics depending on their year.
A KTM 250 SX-F, Yamaha YZ250F or Honda CRF450R don't necessarily use the same cutouts from one generation to the next.
How to Precisely Determine Your Bike's Year?
If in doubt, check the vehicle documents when possible, the model reference or manufacturer information.
Also beware of second-hand bikes whose plastics have sometimes been replaced with those from another generation.
If uncertain, the KUTVEK team can help you identify the right configuration before ordering.

Standard Graphics Kit or Custom Graphics Kit?
It then becomes a question of project.
Choosing an Existing Graphics Kit
A pre-existing design allows quick selection of a style created specifically for the bike.
Depending on the models, different colour variants and finishes may be available.
It's ideal for transforming your bike while keeping the graphic identity of the chosen design.
Customising Your Graphics Kit
To go further, some configurations allow adding in particular:
- the rider's name;
- their number;
- sponsor logos;
- various graphic elements.
Customisation is particularly interesting in motocross as the number plates and side panels are an integral part of the rider's identity.

Which Finish to Choose for a Motocross Graphics Kit?
The choice is no longer limited to classic gloss.
Depending on the ranges and available options, a kit can adopt very different looks.
Gloss
It's a versatile choice that gives great intensity to colours.
Matte
The matte finish offers a more discreet and contemporary look.
Holographic
The reflections change depending on the light and the angle from which you look at the bike.
Glitter
The particles integrated into the effect create more depth and look particularly good in sunlight.
Fluorescent
Fluo is for those who primarily want an extremely visible bike with very intense colours.
We've dedicated a complete guide to this subject.

How to Choose the Colours for Your Graphics Kit?
There's no universal combination.
You can stay close to the brand's historic colours or, on the contrary, completely break its codes.
An orange KTM can receive a much darker design. A blue Yamaha can adopt totally different colours. A red Honda can be transformed with a black, white or fluorescent dominant.
For a rider who competes in races, the legibility of the number and sponsors must also be considered.
A spectacular design isn't necessarily a good design if the important information becomes illegible.
Can You Create a Motocross Bike with a “Team” Look?
Yes.
It's even one of the most natural trends in the motocross world.
A Replica or competition-inspired kit allows recreating the visual spirit of a race machine while adding, when the product allows, your own name and number.
KUTVEK also works with riders and teams in competition. The KTM 250 SX-F of Calvin Fonvieille, for example, lets you see a Replica Team TMX K26 directly in race conditions. Kutvek

Should You Change Your Plastics Before Fitting a New Kit?
Not necessarily.
A kit can be fitted to existing plastics provided their condition allows good adhesion.
However, heavily scratched, deformed or damaged plastics can make fitting more difficult and degrade the final result.
And above all, you must remove the old graphics and thoroughly clean and degrease the surfaces before fitting.
How to Properly Fit Your Motocross Graphics Kit?
Even the best kit can be poorly fitted if preparation is neglected.
The surface must in particular be clean and perfectly degreased. The working temperature also matters: KUTVEK recommends a heated room, ideally at at least 18°C, so the vinyl is sufficiently flexible and adheres correctly. Kutvek
We've already prepared a detailed guide explaining the method step by step.

How to Maintain Your Kit After Fitting?
After a few outings, dirt, dust and mud will obviously cover the bike.
Suitable washing helps maintain the kit's appearance longer.
With a pressure washer, avoid placing the lance too close to the vinyl edges or directly attacking a corner with high pressure.

A Different Graphics Kit for Each Motocross Bike
The right kit isn't simply the one with the most spectacular graphics.
You need to combine compatibility with the model and year, material quality, design, customisation and finish.
It's this combination that allows obtaining a bike coherent with its rider, whether it's only ridden at weekends or lined up behind a starting grid.

FAQ — Choosing Your Motocross Graphics Kit
How to Know Which Graphics Kit Fits My Motocross Bike?
You need to precisely select the bike's brand, model and year. The shapes of the plastics can change between two generations of the same model.
Can You Personalise a Motocross Graphics Kit with Your Name and Number?
Yes, many KUTVEK kits offer customisation options including the rider's name and number.
Can You Put Sponsor Logos on Your Kit?
Depending on the product and chosen customisation level, different logos can be integrated into the design.
Which Finish to Choose for a Motocross Graphics Kit?
Gloss favours colour intensity, matte a more understated look, while holographic, glitter or fluorescent finishes allow achieving a much more distinctive result.
Can You Fit a New Kit to Already Used Plastics?
Yes if the plastics are clean enough and in good condition. Meticulous preparation and degreasing are essential before fitting.
Does a Graphics Kit Protect the Plastics?
The vinyl adds a layer to the areas it covers and can limit some superficial marks. However, it doesn't protect against major impacts or the consequences of a fall.
How Long Does a Motocross Graphics Kit Last?
The lifespan depends greatly on usage, fitting quality, maintenance and the constraints the bike is exposed to.
Can You Wash a Motocross Bike with a Pressure Washer When It Has a Graphics Kit?
Yes, with caution. Keep sufficient distance and avoid directing high pressure directly under the vinyl edges.
